Dr. Antje Dresen holds a doctorate in sociology and is a certified speech teacher. She studied sociology (major subject), politics, education and sports pedagogy at the University of Regensburg and the University of Vienna. She also completed a second degree in speech education.

From 2004 to 2006 she was a research associate at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Regensburg. With a subsequent scholarship from the academic foundation, she researched the topic of doping in elite sports as a social problem. From 2009 to 2010 she taught at the Institute of Sports Sciences at the University of Göttingen, where she organized the area of Sports and Society. From 2009 to 2012 she was a lecturer of rhetoric (speech and conversation) at the University of Regensburg.

In 2010 she accepted a position of a junior professorship from the University of Mainz in sociology of sport, where she further expanded her work focus on the topics of exercise and health. At the Research Center of Social and Cultural Studies Mainz (SoCuM), she also led the interdisciplinary working group: Discourse - Power – Knowledge. Constructions of inequality until January 2017. Her achievements were positively evaluated in September 2013 and classified as equivalent to a habilitation.

From March to June 2017 she took over the management of the press and public relations work of a biomedical research company (PharmGenomics GmbH) in Mainz.

Since August 2017 she has been working as a research associate at IMVR, where she heads the Department of Medical Sociology. She is responsible for coordinating the medical sociology teaching at the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne.
